Love Note - App Recipe

I'm participating in a photo-a-day project for the month of August, created by a friend of a friend. Today's assignment was "leave a love note," but I decided to use one I already had laying around: the card I gave my husband for our anniversary on July 31st.

I took a photo of the top corner of the card in Instagram using the Amaro filter. Then I took it into Photo Toaster and gave it the Old School filter and White Brush frame.

I was just going to leave it at that, but I decided to play around some more... I put it into 100 Cameras and chose the filter "The Future of Us." (Love the name!) After that I put it into Picture Show and gave it some Painting Drop noise, a Vignetting of .5 and a Vintage Dust Frame. And voila!

Full Moon - App Recipe

Not really a complicated one... I basically just wanted to try out my new app, Wood Camera! For a great demo, go to: http://theappwhisperer.com/2012/07/26/wood-camera-iphone-photography-tutorial-how-to-create-a-dynamic-image/

I started with a photo of the Full Moon against my house, and put it in Wood Camera, choosing the Geneva Lens, Galaxy Texture and Frame 8.

I could've left it at that, but it was just missing something, so I gave it a Cool Filter in Photo Toaster and a Black Brush Frame.

I think it makes that Galaxy texture pop a little more. Happy Full Moon!

App Recipe: Enforcer

I have a long weekend this weekend, so my Studio day will be tomorrow, but I was out and about today and happened to see this bird sitting on the speed limit sign!

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a closeup without risking scaring him off... In fact, he flew off just after I took this shot! I don't know if it's a hawk or a falcon or some sort, but I loved that he was perched on this sign and thought it would be great for an app recipe.

First, I put it in BeFunky Pro to crop, and applied the Old Photo 3 filter.

And then I put it in Jazz until it gave me a result I liked. The one I chose ended up using the Tones adjustment, Plastic & Glass, Dirt Grunge & Schmutz and the Burnt Edges border, and I added an Exposure adjustment of 38 to bring back the speed limit sign a little more.

I call him the "Enforcer," perched on top on the speed limit sign like that!

Studio day tomorrow!

Happy 4th of July! - App Recipe

I spent the evening in my still-sweltering attic scanning in all my canvas panels from the last several weeks! After I was done, I decided to throw together this app recipe.

I set up my canvases with some star and bead necklaces, and took the picture with Instagram > Hudson filter.

I took the picture into BeFunky and applied the Cooling 2 filter and the Grunge 1 frame. After that, I did some Image Blender blending, first with a picture of star confetti, and then the resulting image with a picture of a lit sparkler.

From there, I took it into Magic Hour > Strong Contrast and then Photo Toaster > Basic > Lowlight and Frames > White Brush.

Have a Safe & Happy 4th of July Everyone!

Solstice: App Recipe

Happy Summer Solstice everyone!

I was inspired to do an App Recipe for the occasion... Check out the Recipe Book Project at http://www.clearerreflections.com/ for more great recipes!

I started with another dictionary page, this time for the word Sol. (That old dictionary was the best buck I ever spent!)

I took that into Image Blender (85/15 blend) with this NASA picture of the Sun.

And then took the resulting image into Image Blender with a diagram from an old book (5/95 blend) to get this...

After that, I put it into Photo Toaster > Supreme > Heirloom...

Next, I put it into Pic Grunger > Scratched (50%, Studio Style), Iris > Surface > Splatter and Photo Forge > Auto Balance: Exposure with Frame 08.

And here's the result!

Leo: App Recipe

I put this image together while watching the Season Finale of Game of Thrones. I'm not a fan of the Lannisters (except for Tyrion!), but I do love lions.

For this one, I took a star photo from Wikimedia Commons (public domain) and another dictionary shot, this time with the entry for the constellation Leo.

I took both photos into Image Blender, with an 80/20 blend...

And then I took the resulting image into Image Blender (40/60 Blend) with one of my lion statue pics, taken with Instagram's Earlybird filter, and then put through Magic Hour's Sepia setting. (I also used Photo Forge to give it a horizontal flip.)

From there, the resulting image was taken into Photo Toaster, given a Yellow Filter, Old Paper Texture and the Funky Frame.

And here is the result...

Eclipse & App Recipes

I didn't get to see it personally, but thankfully NASA takes pics of these things!

Just recently, I found a new blog that I've fallen in love with. You can find it at www.clearerreflections.com. Dave is hosting what he calls The Recipe Book Project, where people share their "recipes" for manipulating photos with mobile apps. He also posts his own photos daily as part of a 365 Project.

For Eclipse, I took a photo of an old dictionary page with the listing for Eclipse on it, and a NASA image of last night's eclipse...

The dictionary page was taken with Instagram > Rise Filter. The NASA photo was imported as is.
Both pics were taken into Blender with a 75/25 blend.

From there, the recipe is as follows:

Magic Hour > Antique

Jazz > Sepia, Bloom, Light Leakage

Pic FX > Urban > Enhance

Photo Toaster > FX > Yellow Filter
                       > Frames > Funky

And this is the result...
